Most buyers come to us with a bottle already chosen and a brand already designed. What they need from the box is a consistent unboxing moment, whether it's one bottle in a boutique bag or six bottles in a corporate gift set. You'll see single-bottle, four-bottle, and six-bottle options, plus ribbon-handle versions that make carrying easier. The structure changes but the goal doesn't: the box should feel intentional, not like an afterthought.
How to Choose
Start with the bottle, not the box. Measure the bottle's height, diameter at the shoulder, and base. A foldable box needs enough internal depth for the neck and enough width for the label. If the bottle is tall and narrow, a single-bottle foldable with a ribbon handle works well. If you're packing four or six bottles, the box becomes a tray with dividers, and the foldable walls have to be taller to keep the neck from hitting the lid.
Then decide how the box will be handled before it's opened. Since foldable boxes ship flat, you cut freight and storage costs. Assemble them on your end or ask us to ship them pre-assembled. Flat is usually the better call for in-house gift set assembly. Pre-assembled removes a step and keeps a customer from having to fold their own box, which counts for drop-shipped orders.
The closure matters more than you think. Magnets should hold the lid shut when you lift the box by its top, but opening shouldn't feel like a fight. Within plus or minus 1 mm we set the magnet position, and every new structure gets tested with a loaded bottle. If the lid sags or the magnets misalign after a few open-close cycles, that's a design failure, not a materials failure. Can you make a foldable box for a bottle with an unusual shape, like a tall Riesling or a wide Burgundy?
Yes. We start with the bottle dimensions or a sample bottle. The insert is designed around the actual bottle profile, not a generic shape. Wide Burgundy bottles drive the box width from their base diameter while tall Riesling bottles require wall height that clears the neck without excessive empty space above it. Send us the bottle height and shoulder diameter, instead, or ship a sample.
How flat do these boxes actually ship?
Flat enough to affect freight in a real way. Because a foldable single-bottle box ships at roughly the board thickness plus the insert, you can get substantially more units on a pallet than with rigid boxes. Magnets and ribbon handles are fitted during manufacture, and yours is just folding on the creases and slipping in the bottle when you're assembling. No glue, no tape.
What if the recipient opens the box and the bottle has shifted during shipping?
It shouldn't happen, and it won't if we've designed the insert to our four-point rule and the box passes pre-shipment checks. We shake the loaded box for 10 seconds, tilt it 45 degrees, and invert it. If the bottle moves at all, we re-cut the insert. What We Control
The board is greyboard at 1200 g minimum, with 1400 g recommended if you're putting spirits in the box. Facing paper is 157 g minimum, specialty or coated. We don't use recycled greyboard or high-moisture paper because either one will warp after lamination and the corners won't hold at 90 degrees when the box is erected. For foldable boxes, the creases have to be scored precisely, as a too-deep crease cracks the board while a too-shallow one keeps the walls from folding flat. Every batch gets checked by folding a sample along the crease and inspecting for cracks.
The insert is where most wine boxes fail. Four points must hold the bottle: neck, shoulder, mid-body, and base, leaving no unsupported neck or shoulder. In testing, we shake the loaded box for 10 seconds, tilt it 45 degrees, and invert it; the bottle cannot move, slide, or release. Our control tolerance is plus or minus 1 mm on the insert and plus or minus 2 mm on the box body. Colour is matched to Pantone with first-article approval and mid-run sampling, though black, deep blue, and burgundy are hardest to hold, so budgets permitting, expect an extra proofing round when your brand uses one of those. Before anything leaves the factory, we run our in-house checks: a 1.2 m six-face drop test with the bottle loaded, stacking top load of 40 kg or more for 24 hours, and a truck and sea vibration simulation. The box has to survive the trip and still open like it's supposed to.
